A Gift for the Runner in Your Life

“it’s the holiday season… whoop-de-do… hickory-dock… don’t forget to hang up your sock.”

the holidays are here!  so exciting.

let the shopping and chaos begin!

just kidding.

let the time of giving begin.

i came across this recipe a few years ago.  it showed up on my social news feed, so i pinned it of course.

i tweaked it just a smidgeon.

bulb     Chocolate  Peppermint Pretzels

  • 6 ounces of Ghiradelli semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 15 to 20 plus mini twisted knot pretzels
  • 3 peppermint candy canes, crushed
Tip:  I placed the unwrapped candy canes in a heavy duty ziplock bag. Using a flat bottom measuring cup or mallet, I crushed them.  Didn’t leave my kitchen a powdery mess. With standard bags, tiny holes get punched out.
I crushed extra to use in a batch of one of my favorite holiday cookies.  More on that later. Stay tuned.
Crushed just enough so tiny bits of peppermint remain.
In a microwave, slowly melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl, stopping often to stir until the mixture is smooth. Dip the pretzels into the melted chocolate; place on a wax paper lined tray or cookie rack.  Sprinkle with crushed peppermint, and refrigerate to cool completely.
easy, no?

place a bunch in a cellophane bag tied with a ribbon and a homemade gift tag. or place some in a white candy box tied with a ribbon…  or a mason jar tied with a ribbon. you get the drift. i like ribbon. it is amazing what a little ribbon can do.  the ooh’s and ah’s it can add to a gift.

told ya.

so make a batch for the runner in your life or anyone for that matter.  even yourself!

they are not really “healthy” per say, but it’s the holidays.  indulge a little.
